Brazilian biodiversity has been the driving force of FARM Rio since the very beginning. More than inspiring our creations, it ignites the commitment and desire to care for the planet and help regenerate ecosystems, focusing on giving back to our home country on multiple fronts, such as allocating resources to reforestation projects and protecting Brazilian wildlife.

We seek more responsible raw materials from environmentally friendly sources and adopt production processes that follow the best market practices, committed to preserving the environment and biodiversity. Our goal is to balance the creation of our products with the protection of the environment and all the life it supports through initiatives that help the reforestation and regeneration of degraded areas, also taking care of biodiversity, wildlife protection, and offsetting GHG emissions.

Carbon offset: where we are and our future goals

+23,000 tons of carbon offset in 2022

Together with Grupo SOMA, we offset 100% of our CO2 emissions through the "We plant 1,00 trees a day, every day" reforestation project and the purchase of carbon credits. Now, we want to continue expanding this commitment!

Our path to Net Zero

Offsetting our emissions is the first step towards achieving Net Zero. This collective and more ambitious goal involves a series of measures and initiatives to reduce all greenhouse gas emissions into the atmosphere.

To guide this path, we follow the guidelines of the GHG Protocol, the worldwide method most used by companies and governments to manage greenhouse gas and climate-warming emissions, which is based on three scopes:

Scope 1: direct carbon emissions released into the atmosphere from our company's operations

Scope 2: indirect emissions from energy purchased by our company, such as consumption of electricity, steam, heat, and cooling

Scope 3: indirect emissions linked to our operations that are not listed in scope 2, such as purchased raw materials, employee travel and displacement, disposal, and distribution

Our collective goal is to achieve Net Zero scopes 1 and 2 by 2030 and Net Zero scope 3 by 2050 while we move forward to an increasingly responsible future, from Brasil to the world. To learn more, check out our 3rd Sustainability Report

We plant 1,000 trees a day, every day

Together, we’re reforesting all Brazilian biomes

Nature has been our greatest inspiration here at FARM Rio since 1997. We believe it is part of our duty to help protect nature and give back to the environment. This is why we have partnered with One Tree Planted since 2019, with the expansion of our brand to the US and other countries, to aid in reforestation efforts in all Brazilian biomes: the Amazon Rainforest - the largest rainforest in the world and our home -, the Atlantic Forest, Caatinga, Cerrado, Pampa & Pantanal.

We started planting trees a few years ago in Brasil, our home country, in the Atlantic Forest and the Amazon Rainforest with our partners SOS Mata Atlântica Foundation and the Institute for Conservation and Sustainable Development of the Amazon - IDESAM, respectively. After that, we've also partnered with One Tree Planted, Instituto Curicaca, Instituto Homem Pantaneiro, and Iniciativa Verde to scale these initiatives even more, embracing all the other biomes. Together, we work to regenerate degraded soils through the planting of native species, boost local culture and economies, neutralize emissions, and recover our important biodiversity while protecting the environment. We help show that agriculture and the forest can coexist in harmony through plantings made in agroforestry systems.

From 2019 until the end of 2023, we donated 1,491,616 to all 6 biomes in Brasil through our reforestation projects and partnerships, growing more than 200 tree species and protecting more than 2,000 wild animals. From now on, we’ll plant 1,000 trees a day, every day. And it's just the beginning: let’s plant together an increasingly circular and responsible future daily, from seed to seed, returning to nature all the inspiration it brings us.

Responsible Materials

We've been working hard to introduce more responsible materials into our collections, finding the best versions the industry offers for some of the fibers we use most, such as LenzingTM EcoveroTM viscose, Organic Cotton, Recycled Polyester, and Fluity-(co2) a.O.P. We always ensure these more responsibly produced fibers are independently certified. In our collections launched in 2022, we had 29.94% of responsible fabrics in the Resort, 16.61% in Spring-Summer, 24% in High Summer, and 27.44% in Fall. In the 2023 collections, we had 22.50% in Resort, 19.57% in Spring-Summer, 19.94% in High Summer, and 8% in Fall-Winter.

Together, we’re #naturelovers!

Since the beginning, we’ve worked with Brasil's most diverse cultural manifestations, supporting and making partnerships. We respect and learn from local knowledge to create shared value between local artists, artisans, models, and suppliers.

From creating with and supporting projects in Brasil at every collection, we want to help preserve Brazilian biodiversity, expanding the positive impact not just on the environment but also on communities around it, while telling stories and showcasing what we love the most: the rich culture of our home country.

Meet our partners

Vida Livre

Since 2019, FARM Rio has been working with the Instituto Vida Livre, an NGO focused on the rehabilitation and release of wild animals in Rio de Janeiro. The institute is the main partner of Ibama - Brazilian Institute of the Environment and Renewable Natural Resources - in Rio, having rescued more than 9,000 wild animals of different species since 2015. Together, we continue to invest in protecting the species impacted by urban dangers and illegal traffic in the Atlantic Forest region of Rio. In 3 years, we created 4 collections and have already returned 126 animals to where they belong. We’ve also donated 28 customized release boxes and invested in actions such as the creation of the Institute’s headquarters that provides free care for 5,000 wild species.

Ampara Silvestre

The jaguars always inspired our prints and became one of our causes. In partnership with Ampara Silvestre - an NGO focused on preserving and rehabilitating wild animals, FARM Rio helped protect and return to nature the largest of South America's big cats and one of the most threatened. The donations were reverted to the care of jaguars that were victims of fires, and it also covered their veterinary care.

Onçafari

The Onçafari Association was founded in 2011 to protect biodiversity in the Atlantic Forest, Amazon, Cerrado, and Pantanal biomes, focusing on native jaguars, pumas, and maned wolves. They also aim to contribute to the health and well-being of these regions through initiatives on ecotourism, environmental education, and scientific studies. We have partnered with them since 2020, leaving footprints of care for the wildlife and now directly supporting Xamã’s recovery, a young jaguar under rehabilitation that will return to the Amazon Rainforest within 2 years.
